Default My first XR3i..

I'm looking to buy a nice XR3i, before I physically go and view any do I need to be wary of common faults other than rusty arches, battery trays, sills and boots. I currently own a Escort Eclipse and have recently had both rear sills and both front seats welded (Where the seat bolts to the floor) due to rot, is the XR also a rust magnet?

Thanks.

Dan.

im affraid so mate all the mk4's go in the same places wether it be an eclipse or an rs youve said the main ones like the arches and battery tray but check the fusebox aswell and the rear chassis legs near the spring mounts as there prone to rust aswell once youve found one get sum piccies up good luck with the search.

Thanks for your replies.

I've found what I believe to be an original example on pistonheads, it looks immaculate and has only done 50k, recently had new tryes etc.

Downside to the upsides is that it comes with no previous M.O.T's or any form of service history and with 4 previous keepers you'd expect a receipt of some sorts.

Price is Ł1800 and I've offered a sensible Ł1200 to engage some kind of haggle off.

Opinions?

Thanks.

Buy on condition, not history.

He's said 1600 no lower, 1400 would be ideal for me though.

That looks minty mint in the piccies, don't forget that if that's as clean as it looks you won't need to spend anything on it getting it up to scratch, apart from maybe some alloys. Ł1600 is a fair price if it's genuine.

Dont loose a minter for the sake of 1 - 200 qiud mate, made this mistake a few times, it turns into a battle of who has the last say. If its worth 1600 then pay it if you have it. Good luck.

Looks tidy but with no history, make sure it is in tip top condition. If it isn't then don't buy it.

Thanks again boys, I think that I'm going to give it a miss this time round due to lack of funds and he really won't budge on the price even though there's no history at all.

Have found a nice little example on ebay which I'm in the process of brokering a deal.
