dump valve

HI lads is this right i put a dump valve on my 3dr last week and all seams well but i was working on the car tonight and i had the motor running and sore the dump valve was open as you can see in the photo when i rev the motor it closes then re opens when you let it go back to tick over is this right as i think it should be closed

That's correct I believe... on idle inlet's at vacuum so piston compresses spring. Under load and positive boost piston drops back down providing seal until throttle is lifted for changing gear or whatever where it rises again and so releases the excess pressure giving that love or hate 'ptsssshhhh'...
