Escort Turbo Diesel Problem
First of all, Hello everyone! My names Paul (if not already obvious!).
I have a P-reg ford Escort 1.8 turbo diesel and Ive only been able to drive it short distances before it starts to splutter, lose power and evenutally cut out and die. It will start again no problem.
It keeps running when the key is out of the ignition! Yesterday it kept running for about 30 secs before it finally turned off, and again later on that day.
Can anyone identify the exact problem? Unfortunately I was meant to start a delivery job yesterday using my own car, but nope, my car wont allow it, and I cant afford to repair the car until I get a job! Its a vicious cycle and I need the cheapest way to get this repaired, really hoping it isnt anything major.
Thanks!

The running on is almost definitely the valve on the top of the pump, it has a singlw wire going to it, and uses a live to keep this valve open when running.
This valve closes and opens a fuel feed in order to run, they get a bit sticky sometimes, so a clean out will most likely help.
I would also check the filter head plunger by depressing and seeingt if it shoots right out or takes a few seconds when released, it should move back slowly, snapping back sugegst the diaphragm within it it has a hole in it, VERY common, new filter heads are about Ł15 or so.
