Default EFi CVH head - Distributor?

Hi all, this is my very first post on here and i'm looking for a bit of technical help....

I'm going to put a 1.6 CVH in my 1.4 L escort (currently off the road, was running a 2ltr Zetec, it's knackered though, and i need a cheap(er) day to day car as i've just bought a Sapphire Cosworth).

The engine i have lined up is a XR2i EFi lump, and i want to run it on a carb (so it still looks like a 1.4 in the engine bay, for insurance etc!).

Can you fit a distributor in this head? as it obviously
has a coil pack at the mo, what would the process be?

Thanks in advance, will try and get some pics of my cars up soon....

Smile dizzy

to run the dizzy mate just pop out the core plug on the right side of the head and on all the efi heads ive seen they still have the two holes for the dizzy bolts but! the inlet ports wont match so you need a plate to addapt it tbh its cheaper to get a complete 1.6 cvh out of a late mk5 b escort k reg etc as these still use a carb but also run electric ignition so while your pulling the lump out grab the loom eidis coil pack and the grey box with the vac lead on and plug it up to your fuse box all should go fine if you run carb though you will have to ask some one about the fuel pumps because the injection pump might be to rich because the carbed cvh runs a pump of a lobe on the cam shaft, or as before pop out the core plug and run a dizzy on it.
word of warnig if you go looking for an engine there was also a 1.6 sfi which looks like a carb fed lump but isnt but the webber carb will fit this engine without an addapter plate.
hope this helps you out mate

if you're doing it for insurance purposes and you're really that worried, you may want to consider the big 1.6 in the front of the block, and also the 1.6 stamped on the head.....slight giveaways!

Yes the dizzy off your car will work, but as said previously you'd be better off getting an engine that was already on a carb, a conversion plate will cost you £70 plus for the head, i could get a whole engine from the local scrappy for that!

Ah, hadn't thought about that!!! At a glance it'll look the same tho

Just ideas at the moment, my idea was to get a carbed motor from the scrappy, but my mate offered the XR2i motor for next to nothing.

Cheers for the help mate

Just another heads up mate. When we tried to run an efi cam on a carbed cvh we kept snapping cambelts as the mechanical fuel pump kept jamming on the cam. As said might be better selling the 2i lump and buying a carb fed or even a xr3i mfi lump as a carb would just bolt straight on without a plate

Thats very odd as the fuel pump only uses an eccentric lobe, and all the camshafts have it??

The basic blank they are all made from is the same too?

It's been years ago and had us confused at the time but I'm sure this was the problem mate. Does anyone else have any ideas on this point?

Its certainly worth noting, i wonder if maybe it was down to the installation of the pump on the head though, they have that very thick plastic gasket type effort, anything thinner i suppose could mean the push rod for the pump is fouling (restricted travel) within and jamming the cam, but i would doubt its a compatibility issue if you follow my train of thought.
