Side exit exhausts
I am thinking about making a side exit for my 3dr cos. Does anyone know if it will pass an mot? I have heard that unless made properly it could damage my t4??? Has anyone got pictures,drawings or any specs for a good layout or one for sale? Also good or bad idea????????

I had one on my Escos,no silencers at all.I also had a screamer pipe from the GT35 and when that lot chimed in it was like a jet fighter going over your head.Cops will try to nab you but noise is not an issue for mot.If the exhaust is sound they can do sweet fanny.

i was told that construction of use regulations state that the exhaust must pass the rear axle so as long as its not coming out the front it should be fine but then on the other hand ive seen a fair few featured cars with it not going anywhere near the rear axle! so who knows???
I don't know if you've realised but it appears that your - key is sticking on intermittently.
Mine passed the MOT with a side exit..i took it to centre known to be strict too as i wanted a 'proper' test on it.
As mentioned already tho, IMO it is too loud to use everyday (especially in a cabby). Mine isnt straight thru either its 63mm into a (100mm dia x 600mm L) silencer, then out of the passenger side. Cost £150 for the bits an pieces (pipewerx.com..good lads) an £40 to have it welded up.

mot testing does not always include construction of use regulations.
i.e. a car can pass an mot with a "bad boy" bonnet partially covering the headlights providing that it still allows enough light through for a beam test etc. but construstion of use regulations supposedly say that your not allowed to cover your headlights with your bonnet at all unless the car was originally constructed that way and the headlight it shaped to suite. i thought it very stange aswell, just do a side exit and let us know if ya get caught! lol

vans, busses, lorrys, and plenty of standard cars have side exits, exiting either side, and in all kinds of places, even in front of the front wheels (literally where front bumper is) on certain lorries for safety reasons.
internet bullshit bollocks.
but like all mods, some pigs and mot folk still dont like it like any mod, and may think its illegal when its not, jus like most here seem to.
ive had side exits on plenty of cars, the majority exiting on passenger side, nefver a prob.
saying things like "especially if its got antilag" or "imagine it at the lights" is retarded, as using ALS on the road is risking trouble regardless of exhaust, and why would a side exit be more dodgy at lights than anywhere else? cars are more likely to be BEHIND you than anywhere if thats what you mean :cry;

according to ukpoliceonline.co.uk the rule is that it has to sit behind the front axle not the rear axle as i incorrectly stated previously.
