this is the reason why i ask:
last week my car was driving fine. got home turned the car off as normal (by the key). when i next went to start it i had no power at all not even foot well lights, hazards light nothing nada zip. so i decided to jump start the car. started first time. went for a drive. all inside electrics were working fine. by this time it was getting dark so turned on my side lights and the whole car died ( on a roundabout i might add!!!) i had nothing, again not even hazard lights.( so i was getting a few suggestive comments from other drivers). so pushed it back onto a verge. got someone out to jumpstart it again. started first time, got it home. switched it off. 5 secs later tried to start it and again nothing. so you would think that the answer would be a knackered alternator or battery. changed both of those the following day. still had the same problem. but again would start first time from another car by leads. (even without the other cars ignition being on). so i was told that some cars have a fusable link hence why i asked. but definatley can't find one.any ideas at all!!! thanks for reading

i had this problem it was the cable from the alternator to the battery i replaced it with some 130 amp cable but you will need a big set of crimps to put the terminals on or daz c can provide ready made if you do a search for daz c you will see his electrical write ups this may not be the problem but does sound like it

Doesn't sound like a fused link to be honest unless you have some severely over heated wiring at the battery terminal....

You need to test the output of the alternator. Next time it does it, see what voltage is in the battery and then what voltage is on the terminals of the wires...a difference would indicate a bad connection.
