mk 5 project help
hi . i am looking to buy a mk5 escort and put in aturbo engine however as i have limited knowledge i was just wandering what would be the best engine to put in . i am only looking to be around the 250bhp mark . also what other parts would i need to do an engine conversion . any help would be greatly appreciated . thanks
depends what escort you start with mate, if your starting with a zetec, then fitting a zetec turbo would be easiest, you could however start with an RS2000 and used a turbo'd I4...
i was thinking of ying a near mint shell and starting fresh , thus meaning i could have a choice of any engine , i think , if i done that what would be the easiest and most cost effective option , i was thinkin erst engine but if im wrong then any info would be appreciated thanks
RST is the easiest way, but then you need everything of it ... not only the engine. loom, ecus, fuel pump, intercooler, box with LSD (you can keep old box if you want)
so would i basically need to buy a full workin erstas a donar car then ? if so where would be the best place to look for a cheapish one (as engine would probs need rebuilt anyway) and a mk5 shell , thanks again guys
I think your knowledge will be your enemy if you ask such questions you have to study more about ford world. 2.1 Zvh is a hibrid engine using 2.0 mondeo botom with 1.6 cvh head and you dont get 2.0 turbo engines of anything (unless it's RS focus, but I quess your pocket isn't so deep)

Wholey crap..i think he's going to have major problems..
and if he's asking simple questions like this already, I really dont think he would even get it together in the first place....ie parts engine and such going to be a big uphill struggle
yes my knowledge is very limited thats why i have to ask these questions . tbh i had a zetec s and an impreza both pretty standard thats why i want to do something myself now . im not going to rush it as in no rush so i will be doing this project on my days off . however as i said if i dont ask these questions to the people like yourselves who are clearly more knowledgable in this area than myself then i wont know what im doing . thanks again
TBH its the best way to learn throw yourself in at the deep end.
the easiest way is to get a 1.6 efi mk5, then you can literally stick a fiesta rst lump in, sort out the exhaust and intercooler (although I'd stick an escort t3 turbo on it straight off - helps with airbox and exhaust issues).
You can plug the ecu straight in to the loom, the only thing missing is the amal valve wiring, which is very easy.
You will need to get the right type of ecu for the mk5 loom you have. OFAC or OFAB. Mine was OFAC.

i was actually thinking of the erst route . basically i need zetec bottom end erst cvh top end water pump . probs cossie management . is that just about all i need then . obviously alot of messin about but after reading everything i can find on this subject i still cant find anthing that basically kind of lists everything needed for this conversion . sorry to annoy everyone with all my questions and thanks for the replies
