Default overheating

Hi, had my car on a rolling road the other day to solve a misfireing problem and at the same time was checking out the power and it was really poor around 170 (not sure if wheel or flywheel whichever is lowest). Anyway the guy @ the rolling road place AVA in glasgow said it was because the car was too hot, it was @ 99 degrees. The car is a Sierra saph 4x4 and is meant to be stage 3. Ava's advice was to get rid of the air filter and put standard airbox back on and ditch the air con unit and get an rs500 intercooler?
Whats peoples opinions on going back to standard airbox? and wheres best to get a good intercooler?
Also the misfireing problem turned out to be the ignition amplifier so if anyone has a spare one im interested?
cheers
Greg

A cone filter is okay if fed with cold air, but with hot weather a box might be better.
I have just bought a Airtec RS500 cooler, and is the one I would sugest as best value for money/performance.
Ignition amps are I think only about Ł35 new, I will have TWO for sale next week as going coilpack so don't need them.

i guess your in scotland? where's abouts?

i wouldn't have thought temps would reduce power by that much but then i could be wrong

nuermous intercoolers available but it depends on your budget, i run a pace rs500 style intercooler and never had any issues, a few people dont like them as there are better manufactures of these around such as pro alloy or radtec. You will pay a premium for such names so maybe go with what tabs has suggested

if you dont want to buy new, try paul at north yorks rs spares http://www.cosworthrsspares.co.uk/ or pm him off here rs500 registrar

Unless he meant underbonnet temps of 99 deg F, 55 deg C, this would reduce power but by nowhere near that amount.
I can't see it would be coolant temp as he would have to get into water system to meansure it, but 55C is SERIOUSLY hot and I doubt very much if it was this, unless it was a very hot day and his RR is not temp controlled ?, in which case not worth using.

To clarify Inlet manifold temp 91 deg celcius.Std int +air con rad + cone filter + warm day + 20psi boost = 91c & low power

Yup, take it TomCos works at AVA?
Yeah that explains it a bit better.
In process of getting an intercooler just now.

Its Alan(he would have been the guy running the car on the RR) posting in Tom's (AVA fabricator) profile.

Jesus 91C, in the inlet, you DO have problems, a RS500 cooler as a minimum is needed.

Think tab mean that the RR should av a bloody big fan blowing on the front of the car to cool air temp down.
At stg 3 a rs 500 cooler would be a good thing.
Good luck.
