Default please help... cossie oil leak problem???

just picked up my new car, westfield sew cossie powered 2wd

slight problem!

whenever come to a stop after trip out, have a look at engine and there is a puddle of oil on top of rocker cover at one end... cam cover end

also seems to be oil coming out from top of dipstick...

have replaced oil filler cap 3 times with no joy...

seems as if it comes from the cap...

why would this be?? breather system problem maybe??

bottom end sounds fine, no knocks...

rebuilt 20k ago... starts from cold fine... just seems to have this problem??

any ideas/remedies would be appreciated!!

it can come out of the bolts that hold the cam cover on.

take them out and put a small amount of silicon sealer on them when going back in.

thanks for that... will have a look tomorrow...

so, am i right in thinking, reason for the oil leaking, is due to excess pressure???

if so, i did notice hole at opposite end of cover next where oil breather system is plumbed into... which would surely let any unwanted pressure out??

also, system has an oil catch tank??? does this make a difference or help with solving problem??

but sure it is coming from oil filler cap?

You could put the additional breather on the rocker cover by drilling it out at the rear after taking it off, this would help, as would pre loading the cap, cut a ring out of a cereal box and place between the cap and the seal that goes on the cap, you may need two but it will work and is free!!.

Ok thanks ill try the cereal box idea today and see how i get on, will post back the results,

The thing i dont understand is why is there so much pressure around the oil cap area? there is approx an 8mm hole drilled into the the rocker cover opposite the breather system next to were the battery is situated and its not blanked off, why if theres alot of pressure doesnt it start coming out of there??

I will get some more detailed pictures up later on to see if this sheads any more light on the situation...

Right ive fitted the cardboard gasket around the oil cap, that seems to have 90% sorted the leak from there, but i still have oil coming from the dipstick & now it seems as though theres oil coming out of the breathers??
here are some pics of the set up if it throws any light on it?

The hole you mention is at each end of the rocker cover, and is in the PLUG area not the oily bits, this is so that no condensation forms around the plugs/connectors to cause misfires.
You are using both or just the one block breather ?

Ok that solves the mistery with the hole then, not sure how you mean both or one block breather? This evening ive had the kidney box of an cleaned that out , blown through all the breather hoses to check for blockages and drained the oil catch tank, seems ever so slightly better but im still looseing a lot of oil each time i use it.. Im thinking about uprating the breather system to a bailey one do you think this would help?

change your breather system to a set up like this, as quite frankly any set up which uses the kidney box is crap

also, maybe a long shot but i had a similar'ish problem and i couldnt figure out what it was. after much head scratching i decided to take the cam cover off; some idiot had put the cam cap studs in upside down which meant the nipple of the stud was pressing against the cam cover which stop it sealing properly.

worth a shot for the sake of 20 cam cover screws

edited to say: the cam cover studs should be input so the nipple of the stud goes into the head rather than the other way up.

having said all that i dont think it would cause oil to come up the dipstick, but worth a shot

Make sure you have not overfilled the oil aswell. In the Dax the engine is tilted forwards, whereas in the Sierra its slightly backwards. I needed to jack mine up into the correct position, fill oil to correct level, then lower back down and make a notch on the dipstick to indicate max.
