Default 200 205 ? whats the difference

this may sound stupid, is the 205 block from the rs500? i have a 2wd saff and my bearing has gone in my bottom end, so was thinking of investing in a 205 block, cause ive heard its the rs500 block, but ive also heard its the 4wd block. can someone put me straight and tell me if this block would fit my 2wd head and if its beneficial thanks chris.

205 blocks are fitted to all 2wd cossie!how ever a rs500 205 block is different to a normal one, much stronger(dont know the ident of a 500 one tho!)200 blocks were fitted on the 4x4,although i have been told earlier 4x4 casn have a 205 block!(not sure if true or not!!) i beleive the difference between a 205(normal)and a 200 block is around the water jackets thicker wall between them and the cylinder bore depends what u want really standard 205 block good for 400bhp maybe 430!!500 205+200 good for more although they still are prone to cracking

RS500 block is different and easily identified by it's smaller core plugs, compared with 205/200 blocks.
The main difference with 4wd 205 blocks as fitted to all 4wd sierra/escort cossie is thicker webbing and material especially around the area of the gearbox end.
If assembled right a 205 will take 450 all day long.
RS 500 blocks can further be identified by the ridiculous money they command.

theres no different in the top half of the block on 2wd/4wd just the 4wd(200) has a thicker waist for holding the diff "this was told to by a long term employee of cosworth called jeremy " and if built well will stand up to 500bhp

Great logic Jay. So because they both fail, that means they're identical.

Aaron....I would be very worried if i had a 205 block in a smal turbo escort cossie.

Sounds to me like someone has helped themselves to the best 200 block and replaced it with a 205?

I wouldn`t put it past Ford to fit what they have laying around. I had a 1986 Capri factory fitted with a 205, and i have friends with XR4x4`s with both hydraulic and mechanical followers but there was supposed to only be one type in the 2.9. Parts Bin Specials!!

NOT according to cosworth, just read it in the book, the 200 block was BASED on the RS500 block, early 2wd sapphys(88) had ex 3 door engines out of cars when they replaced the egines with the RS500 ones.
Ford Germany recalled thousands of cossie's(3 doors) as all were suffering head gasket failure, this was then rectified with a YB O611 head gasket, with a OMEGA fire ring incoporated into it.
It was found due to expansion of the head mostly around the exahust area that the head was moving and so killing the seal.
The 4wd head is different to counteract this, as is the block.
All in the book by Graham Robson, with contributions by cosworth/ford etc etc etc.
There was even 1 3 door 4X4 cossie made in black, as well as lots of other specials.

Think this was a one off. cos all the numbers matched aswell also the engine had never been out strange but true, never had the piston slap like a 2wd so my guess it had 4x4 internals to match the head otherwise the comp ratio would be higher
