T34 turbo Identification
Just recieved a turbo from a seller on Ebay. He claimed it is a T34. How do I tell firstly that it is a T34 and secondly, if it isnt, what sort of turbo it is
Written on it is:
Compressor: Garrett A/R .42 BC1
Exhaust: A/R -4 DH4 ?OE M4 DH56 NI
Is there something I can measure to help?
Hope you can help before I have to leave feedback or ask for my money back
Cheers guys

thanks for your help guys,
the big differences look to be the compressor housing would that be the main difference
Before I tell the guy to stick it I had better know what Im talking about

It COULD be a modded T3 to T34 spec, though!!
I have a T3 "looking" turbo but is T34 inside, as you can see from the piccie the T34 inlet gets MASSIVELY narrower at the trim wheel entry end, no larger than a T3 infact, and that is why I had mine machined out inside the comp housing to accomodate a T34 trim wheel.
I don't of course know whether this is the case above, just that it could be.
But externally certainly is a TO3/T3.

what measurements could I take to determine what it is, or is it the shape of the compressore wheel etc.
Correct me if Im wrong please.
The T3, T34/35 T4 all use the same bearing core and the only difference is the housing sizes and compressor/impellor wheels. Thus as anything I buy is going to need a rebuild should I just put a t34/t4 front on this turbo and be done with it. or should I match the exhaust size or at least .48 size rather than the .4 or .42 it may be. or just posrt it back to the seller and demand my cash back!!
Hope thats self explanatory.
any ideas,
thanks again for your input.
Cheers,
Justin P

Up to you what you do but,
YES same bearing core on T3/(34/35)/T4.
Assuming you have your old turbo, I would send that for a rebuild and get your money back.
You need to spec the turbo to the engine, but T34 will work with a std engine or modded one, but depending on what has been done ? a different one may be more suited.
I use Craig/Andy at the TURBOCENTRE 01924 404112, good honest lads, do all the mods as well.

personally i'd sling it back to the seller as item not described; the compressor housing is not a t34. Unless he said it was a t34 internals with a t3 housing i'd say its item not as described.
Assuming you still have your original t3, i'd send that away to get modded to a t34 spec and that way it will have a rebuild as such....its better than buying something off ebay which could be in need of a rebuild anyway
if you dont have your original, PM me
