Question Escort MK5 Front discs and pads replacement

Hi there, i'm gonna be changing the front discs and pads on my MK5 daily runner but having not done brakes before i was just wondering if anyone can give me a run through of the process and any pictures of stages along the way, tools needed and things to look out for etc that are not always covered in the Haynes manual will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys, DeanO!

You'll need a 7mm allen key, Halfords sell a nice one for about £3.99.

Must be different on the van then! Just needed a pair of pliers to pull surclip off, tap the pin out of the calipers, and then a spanner to undo the bolt on the back, pull the lot off and replace with the new. So simple i managed to do both sides in 20 minutes including jacking up and taking the wheels off.

usually allen key, socket set and piston compressor tool, copper grease for the back of the pads.
Its usually slacken the wheel nuts jack the car up and support on axle stands.
Remove wheel.
Tap the pins out that holds the pads in and remove the pads.
Undo the caliper bolts and move caliper away from the disc, but make sure you support it so you don't stretch the brake pipes.
There maybe a little clip on one of the wheel studs remove this and pull of disc.
Then it should be the reverse, don't forget to put copper grease on the back of the new pads before installing them in the caliper

A lot of pads come with a rubber coating on the back anyway so copper grease isn't always needed.
