Angry Stalling Small Turbo Escort Cossie - Desperate!

Hi

I have a small turbo Escort Cossie and it's really starting to frustrate me. When it gets warmed up it stalls after being revved/ pulling up traffic lights junctions etc. The revs dip really low and it often cuts out.

We have changed the Idle Speed Control Valve & found it didn't have speed sensor so fitted one along with a new speedo cable. I took it to a rolling road and they said it was running lean and were sure it was the MAP sensor so changed that, no good. It has been on diagnostics at Bristol Street Ford & an independenant garage and there are no faults. I also changed the fuel filter.

We are looking at changing the MAS sensor & Throttle position sensor next but my wallet is not bottomless. My friend that works for Ford suggested it could be the timming out slightly after a cam belt change but that was Ocober 2006 & it was off the road until about June 2007 & I never noticed the problem until the August.

Any help or advice appreciated.

I had similar with mine except it didnt stall but revs went well low.
Interpro thornbury have been working on mine as the car was also running lean when put on boost. the answer is my standard ecu is knackered and at the mo they are fitting with the latest OMEX system, quite costly though, but will be worth it, should have it back next week. if it resolves my probs will let u know

Default Interesting

Thanks for that NICOL. Would be interested to know what the outcome is?

Perhaps I should try another ECU not a MAS sensor!

Hi
Yes, the engine is standard. It is rich at idle and lean on boost.

Normally caused by an aftermarket dump valve this stalling problem.

Knackered ECU causing Lean Running? Never seen that before...

Hi Stu

Mine doesn't have a dump valve. The only mods are a K&N filter & stainless decat exhaust.

Have you checked the standard dump valve diaphragm isn't perforated. And have to tried cleaning the MAF?
