There is a 3 pin connector in the engine bay that is used for reading the error codes. To use this you can make yourself a reader. e.g. a simple LED reader http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/star.htm or more complicated text display reader http://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.harby2/ggpfcrpg.html Commercial stuff ranges from simple LED readers e.g. http://www.drapertools-online.com/b2...pp_skmno=68082 up to more expensive stuff like the Syke Pickavant ACR2 and upwards.

excellent advice many thanks, has anyone used these 3 pin single led type readers, ie like the draper one? are they any good.

I was going to get one to try on my 1989 1.6 efi orion which has now been converted to ofac rs turbo efi engine from fiesta rs.

where would the plug be in the engine bay?

The LED types can be a pain as you have to count the number of flashes, not so bad on a 2 digit like the RS has but sometimes you lose count

I think the plug is on the offside inner wing, between battery and suspension tower.
