Default flat spot

Hi guys. was wondering if you could help me solve a problem thats driving me crazy. here goes...I own a R reg escort mk6 gti, it's been modifed a bit including KENT RALLY CAMS,BURTON POWER CYLINDER HEAD STAGE 1 and all the other usual bolt -on stuff. but i've not changed anything to do with the ecu, fueling etc. here's the problem, it's only been happeingfor the last 3 months.
If i put my foot flat on the throttle in any gear i get a severe flat spot after around 3000-3500 rpm, which last all the way through the rev range, but if i lift my foot up say half an inch, the power comes back in and everything is fine. I've been told that it's due to the cams opening the valves for longer, which makes the engine need more fuel than in it's current map can supply straight away.
I've also been told that the advance curve(unsure what this is) is wrong and the car needs a remap and a chip.
is there any truth in these comments? can you guys
recommend anything that may help? a huge thanks to anyone that replies.

thanks again.

however i just had a 5 second think about this but the reason for the better cams is to keep the valves open longer, which in effect allows more air/fuel into the cylinder.

if the fuelling isnt set up right i'm not too sure its a fuelling problem as this would cause it to run lean (too much air and not enough fuel).

so basically im saying the stochiometric ratio is out which will make it lean not flat spot all the way.

i would still have it looked at but it may not be a fuelling problem for the reasons i have said. could be an electronic fault somewhere. mabye the mass air flow sensor is out or something and is not regestering how much air is going into the engine.

mabye try that first as its a 5 pound job just get one from a scrappy. im sure you can afford 5 pounds beforew you go getting the ECU sorted out.

interesting thought!!!!!the cams would have to be pretty nasty to increase the air intake that much that is throws the mass air flow out of it range or something but possible

but in all fairness the mass air flow sensor could just be fucked and nothing to do with cams atall.

you mean that with all the new bits fitted it used to be alright but now its not?
If the problem has just appeared I would sway towards AFS.
but if its always been wrong i would suggest an after market ecu and get it mapped .
