Default Zetec throttle bodies

Hi,

I own an RS1800 and would like to get a bit more bhp out of it. Is this possible keeping the original fuel injection system?
The other obvious choices are:
Throttle bodies
Turbo conversion

Can anyone give me some more information on throttle bodies regarding cost, what type of throttle boddies and what else needs to be changed.

Max flow on the RS1800 inlet manifold is 150 bhp. If you want more you need to bin it. Dunnell used to offer a kit that would get 150 bhp from the 1.8 keeping the original inet but swapping the TB and ECU for about £800.

Seems like a lot of money for just 20 bhp.Any other ways?
What about throttle bodies?
How much would they cost and what would be the bhp gain?
What else would I need to change?

Thanks

Andy

Default More BHP

Maltese Andy........Your be better off just getting a full exhaust system and fitting a KN.

just adding the above will give you more bite! Anyway, i cannot understand where you are going to put your foot down around Malta when the Island is only 17miles by 9???? Your end up in Birza Bugia in the sea!

Anyway, from one Maltese Andy to another here in England!

Lol,

that is so true.
This is why I need more acceleration. I can barely get past 3rd gear. The car can go quite fast but needs time, unlike an RSt or a Cossie.
Anyway, my plan is to get a ship to Genova and drive back down to Malta in the near future.
The car currently has an air filter and perfromance exhaust but we always want more don't we.
Anyone know anything about throttle bodies?
Nice to hear from other Maltese guys on the site

£1900, get you about 155 bhp on std engine for most kits
or you could megasquirt or any ignition ecu for a few hundred and fit bike throttle bodies like a gsxr100

Motorbike throttle bodies and a megasquirt could be done for a couple of hundred pounnds and give 155-165 bhp.

Filters, exhausts etc are a waste of time and money.

Well, I wouldn't mind doing it myself.
So what I'd need to buy is this 'Megasquirt' E.c.u and GSXR throttle bodies? And the necessary wiring obviously.
Anything else?
Are there any other e.c.u's which I can use

zetecs dont give much bhp for cash unless you turbo it.
a 2.0l which has been chipped will give 150bhp but with more torque

Chipping is a waste of money. An intenral standard ZETEC can give you 170 bhp. I dont call a 35 bhp gain "not much bhp for your cash" when you have not had to even get your hands oily.

mapped a std 2L zetec today on bike throttle bodies and an omex 600 ecu
with a std westfield 4-1 manifold + it had a cat.
Made 170bhp and 147ftlbs of torque.
