Default Focus ST engine into XR2?

Just wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible to fit the Focus ST engine into an XR2?

Track car needs a rebuild and got offered the full front end of a Focus at the weekend that has been smashed,so was just wondering if anyone has any info.

I'll probably be shot down and slated, but the simple answer is yes.

Reason being you can put pretty much any engine into any car as long as you have the skill and budget.

It'd be tight I recon, the motor is quite a lot wider than the 4 pots and the engine bay isn't very big, if the gearbox is not very wide you may well fit it in, I'd get the measuring tape out

This is kind of what i was thinking that it may be too wide. As you say though will be well worth having a measure 1'st!

nowts imposible but id imagine the best way to do it without reducing the structural strength of the front end to much would be to space frame the front end and tie it into a weld in cage. youll need to chop alot of chassis leg out id imagine otherwise.

Would you not be better with the focus RS engine? Surely it would be lighter and more suited to your car.

Every chance that is correct mate but was just wondering as i got offered the chance of an ST engine at the weekend.

Chances are that the car will be rebuilt with another big spec CVH but was just wondering after i got offered this and the price i got offered it at!

Cheers Taylor

The Focus ST 5 cylinder engine is all alloy and lighter than the ST170 Zetec engine

I've got both in my garage

also isnt the gearbox sorter to make up for it, so overall its no longer than a zetec etc and box?

they fit in the focus, and so does the duratec...

go for it, and when its done, let me know and we will feature it!

The box that it is the car just now is a Straight cut Quaife for a CVH so ideally i would like to keep using that!
