Default Zetec Heads, Are they interchangeable?

Hi

I have a 1999 mondeo with 1.6 Zetec engine, the one with the black plastic rocker cover.

The cam belt has gone so I'm looking for a secondhand head.

Question is, and I have had lts of different contradicting answers to these:

1. Are all 1.6 and 1.8 Zetec heads from escorts, mondeos and Focus interchangeable?

2. Can I put an 1.8 head on my 1.6 block?

3. Can I use a head with an aluminium rocker cover to replace my head with a black plastic cover?

Thanks all for any advise

Anybody????

I have asked the question in other places and am getting conflicting advise.

If no-one here knows the answer, does anyone have a suggestion as to who I could ask?

Thanks

you can't use the silver top head on the black top engines the heads were revised by fords, not sure if you can use the 1.8 head on a 1.6 as the combustion chambers are a different size and also the valves are a differnet size. best of luck,

Thanks for that. So, it looks like I am looking for a black top 1.6 head. Seems like quite a rare beastie.

If anyone thinks different please let me know.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure you can only use a 1.6 head on a 1.6 engine.

1.6 heads are extremely restrictive and use smaller valves than the 1.8 & 2.0 heads.
