Default Actuator & Boost. Help peeps

My car appeared to be over boosting so with the limited knowledge i have i decided to change the setting on my actuator.

I have now got my head in a pickle cause the car now seems to have to little boost !!!

Ive got so wound up by it i now cant remember which way i should be turning the nut?

What i want to know is does more thread give u more or less boost that it holds and to clarify that what way should i be turning the nut (Clockwise/Anticlowise?)
How much should i been turning it ? Is it just a case of keep turning until i get what i think is correct ? Is to much dangerous for the car ?

Also what is the connection between .bar and psi ?

The car seems to be going up to 1 bar ? How much psi does this equal if they are connected ?

Help appreciated peeps

Winding it shorter ups the boost, longer will lower it.

Often enough (but not always) half a turn is 1psi.

15psi is 1bar, 1bar is the correct boost for a stg1 conversion.

Too much will fuck the car yea.

Thanks mate makes sense now.

Only other thing was when i turned it the nut came loose. Is it supposed to do that ? Does getting back in the car and driving / boosting again tighten it up ? Thats kinda what got me confused. Is there any advise or technique for how to get the optimum setting > ie. enough good boost but not to much which as you said is bad for the engine ?

It is a stage 1 car.

The nut is a locking nut. Turning this wont alter the boost. You undo the locking nut, and then u have to take the actuator bar off the turbo. Lenghthen it to reduce the boost. It cant be too long though - u need to have at least half a hole preload - ie u need to pull the rod out of the actuator by at least half the diamater of the hole which goes onto the turbo - otherwise it wont boost properly.

Ok i understand the fact now that loosening the nut doesnt actually change the boost but im not very technically minded. U say take the actuator bar off the turbo, how do you do this ? I was told you can adjust the bar without having to take anything off ?

yes take the actuator rod off the turbo wastegate its got like a round point which the end of the bar fits in then turn that longer to reduce boost shorter to add boost i would say turn it 1 whole turn anticlock wise to add about 2-3 psi then get a pair of pliers pull the rod from the actuator it will be on a spring load and put it back on the wastgate then put nut back on and tighten nut up easy as that

If you have used mole grips and rotated the actual SHAFT then you are now in danger of running excess boost and destroying the engine.

Ignore the moron who told you to do it this way and buy yourself another actuator before it all ends in tears.

If this is not the case.. follow teh advice above mine.

yes replace actuator if you have been turning the bar by mole grips you will have broken the rubber seal inside actuator
