speedo cable
Cheers fellas, it came out just as described
It hasnt solved the problem though! I drove the car with the clocks out so i could see the cable and the core inside turning when the car was moving and it spins around freely. Any ideas why the speedo needle is bouncing around all over the place? The car has been in a garage for some time but was fine before that.
Many thanks.

speedo cable
Hi mate.
Yes i checked the gearbox end first. I removed the circlip to have a look at the cable to see if it was intact. It seemed ok so i tried the other end at the clocks. After re-fastening both ends the speedo needle still has a mind of its own!!!???????
Cheers.

it sounds to be the springs insode of the clock mechanism. they generally keep it stable and return the needle to 0. if these go or stretch they dont work properly and cause the needle to go everywhere!
sounds like either new clocks for you or you can change over the back parts. but new clocks are much easier.
