Escort 1.8 zetec, hesitation between 2200rpm and 2800rpm

Its driving me mad, i have swapped: plugs (new ford) leads, cps, coil pack. im at my wits end... it makes the car horrible to drive! btw its a 98 S 115 ps ghia saloon

anyone?

Clean the MAF, then reset ECU, by pulling KAM fuse for two minutes.
