Default smoking escort ahh

i have just brought an escort combi with the engine blown so i have coverted it to a 1.8 zetec bottom end with uprated cam new oil pump ect. but i have had it on the road 1 day and it smoke blue smoke when you change gear and deaccelerate but not when its on boost i am only running 4 psi at the mo. its an original 88 turbo with alot of play in the shaft. but could it be sucking oil through the valve seals when the engine deaccelerates. also another problem the cam is quiet noisey on tick over but fine when you rev it up. thanks rob

Sounds like the turbo seals. On tick over theres no presure on them so they will let through oil.Thats why it dont smoke on boost..Hope this helps..

right........if it smokes on idle you could try what im about to suggest......

If you block off the oil feed to the turbo that will stop oil entering the turbo, so if it is the seals producing the smoke this should become evident, but under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you drive the car as you will do some serious damage.

The turbo spins about 4-5rpm at idle and as long as you dont leave it idling for an excessive amount of time it won't cause any damage, and should give you a lot better idea as to where the fault lies.

Compression test it is then!

And while i think of it.........the turbo is no longer in the equation at all?

So no exhaust or boost side connected into the engine?
