Escort 1.4cvh to 1.6cvh Maybe turbo...
Hey folks,
i own a 1.4 CVH Engined 1996/97 N Reg Ford Escort, i have ruined that engine and now wish to go forth and install a 1.6 and ultimatly turn it into an RS Turbo mk6...
I've bought this engine:
With all the ancil's bar the gearbox, ill be keeping as much of my equipment as possible as i know all mine is perfect,
My engine has an EFi injection system, the 1.6 doesnt i personally cant tell what system is on the above picture but its not EFi, i dont wish to go into changing looms and ecu's just yet so what would happen if i were to put my 1.6 engine into the car, and install my 1.4 EFi Injection system to it?
Would it run? if i could get into the ECU config would i be able to minipulate it to overfuel enuff to run the 1.6? are they the same efi? i'm told to get the EFi system from a Fiesta 1.6 XR2i, is this true? if so will my ECU run it properly? and will it be a bolt & plug in job? because i dont wish to change looms etc.

That picture above is an MFI system and it's not a stright swap. The block and the head are slightly different to the EFI one's. The EFI block has a hole in it for the cps sensor that engine you've bought wont have that, the EFI head ports are different to the MFI ones but you can get adapter plates for that. You also need to change the ECU,map sensor ect.. it would be ALOT! easyer to get a 1.6 EFI engine and head (out of something like an XR2i) it will go stright in then all you need to do is change the ECU and MAP sensor ect...

I never heard of 1.4 EFI CVH.... maybe you are talking about mono single injection one? But anyway as I read what you wright I understand that it will be to hard for you to do the job. So get the second hand 1.4 and don't play

You'd be better off ditching the entire set up in the car and fitting the CVH, with a boss welded into the sump for the turbo oil return and fitting an aftermarket EFI system like Emerald, Omex, Gotech etc. I'd use the 3i/2i/FRST inlet for ease of instalation and get it mapped. You are then free to easily upgrade the car for extra power when you so desire.

Only came in the Mk6's though, 1.4 sequential EFI......they have a cam phase sensor where the fuel pump blank normally is on the head, and obviously the cam no longer has the eccentric lobe that would of driven a mechanical fuel pump.

Those 1.4 SEFI engines weren't actually called CVHs at all. I think they were referred to as PTE engines because they had a pent roof combustion chamber rather than a hemspherical one.
Ford like to change names for existing engines from time to time as it makes people think they're getting a new engine instead of an ancient one . Endura-E anyone?

PTE indeed
strange though - ford never changed the name of a CVH when they went over to lean burn........which didn't retain the hemispherical combustion chamber.
nice one Ford
