Adjusting Escort Mk4/Orion Mk2 gear linkage
I've been having trouble getting 3rd gear when the engine gets warm, and have already replaced the clutch ratchet and am happy that the clutch is fully releasing.
Yesterday I had the linkage out and replaced all the bushes, and have it reconnected to the gearbox, but how do you adjust it?
The haynes manual says lock the stick in 4th and turn the selector shaft clockwise to take up the slack. Can anyone explain it better?
Cheers!

From inside the car put the gearstick in 4th and have a friend hold it there.
You go under the car and on the gearbox the shaft that has the selector bolted to it has a hole in it. Loosen the nip on the bolt holding the two together and put a small bar (screwdriver) in the hole. Turn clockwise to take up any slack, hold it there whilst nipping up the bolt
Any clearer ?

Seems highly unlikely its a linkage issue for just the one gear mate!
Probably find you've got a knackered synchro from the info you've given us
