they run off of a switch. it could be a number of things. i also think there was a recall on some of these fans due to the wiring burning out. on the side of the fan there should be a multiplug. have a look at it to see if its okay. also is all your cooling system ok ie thermostat etc. ill have a little dig for you c what i can find

the multi plug is fine mate, i have checked the cooling system and it is perfect, the fan just runs all the time now tho if i leave the fuse in it, i have heard that they also take a temp reading from the air con gas's and if they are to hot they switch the fan on but i cant find a sensor for this as i thought maybe this was open circuited but cant find it, how would i go about getting recall info on it to see if has been done or not its just a pain i did think about wiring it up to a switch but would sooner have it working how it should thanks for your help

If you phone BMW uk with your reg/vin number they should tell you of any recall notices.
The ice switch for the air con will be inside the heater/air con(vapouriser) box, as it functions to stop this freezing, but also temps act as fan turn on when needed according to temp of air con system.

Pull out FUSE for air con, if it stops that is your problem.

If the fan does then turn off, your best bet would be to go to a air con agent(not bmw£££).
I do not know what type of air con system you have on your car ie orifice or expansion, but each have a temperature sensing arrangement on them.
Air con can be a mine field and one that I am not fully conversant with, so I can only advise a air con person if the fan does top with fuse pulled, unless you want to do without your air con, which I am sure you don't, as it is a good thing to have.
