Knocking noise from my S2
Hi i have a series 2,which for the the last couple of months the clutch has been playing up i.e sometimes hard to select gear, very noisy when trying to select reverse and a bit jumpy when coming down the gears.
Well anyway today i took it for a spin got on local bypass and hit about 65-70mph when i felt it back off slightly then heard a slight rattling noise,i then pulled over and got it out and the rattling became extremely loud, popped the bonnet and it seemed to becoming from low down i.e gearbox/clutch area.Got towed home, did a bit of investigating and find when the clutch is engaged the noise vanishes and sounds fine,i am able to select all gears fine with no noise and the engine runs and revs fine with clutch engaged.BUT then put it neutral with clutch engaged get loud knocking, then release the clutch and still extremely loud knocking.
Any ideas what could be im thinking/hoping its something to do with clutch?
All help appreciated.

I think it was a fairly old paddle clutch not entirely sure when it wwas fitted as only owned the car 6 months.Ny local tuner had told me the clutch release bearing was on the way out a while back.

best bet really is to change the clutch full stop,it will come with a new release bearing anyway so it seems this will solve your problem! and id go for the paddle clutch from AP. I Had one of these in my old s2 and which was running nigh on 225bhp at the time and that was superb through out ownership of the car!! hope this helps.
