Default Cosworth radiator fan switch **FAULT FIXED**

Fans stopped working today as i found out when stuck in traffic fuses ok & looks like the previous owner has wired a new feed from the battery to a fuse then relay, going to change the fan switch 1st, are they all the same as have seen one on e-bay but says escort cosworth & Woodford are advertising a Sierra cos fan switch but more expensive, think they were different colours.

Cheers Simon.

Theres 2 different types, what car are you fitting it too?

Sierra cosworth has a 2 pin connector whereas the escort is a multipin

Switches normally very reliable it's the cucuit/fuse holder that lets it down, fuse holder melts, relays pack up etc.

Its on a 4x4 Sapphire, the relay has been mounted on the inner wing next to the pas reservoir, its a bit of a messy job thats been done & its then been covered over by an old aerosol lid to keep the water out . Got any ideas where to mount the relay to stop it getting wet ?

Cheers Simon.

I mounted mine behind the battery, in a proper relay holder, only a few ŁŁ's.

why don't you test if it's the switch before just replacing it? doesn't cost anything to remove the connector from the switch and bridge the 2 connections (if sierra) to check that the relay energises and switches on the fans

Maybe he does not TRUST the ford wiring, and the fuse holder melting tendencies it has.

The plastic on the fuse has melted slightly but fuse not blown, but the fuse holder has seen better days & has almost disintigrated inside where the terminals are, will need to renew it anyway.
