Electric Sunroof Conversion for Escort Cosworth
Hi people, new to the site and not sure if i have posted this on the right part.
I own a Escort Cosworth Lux on a 93 K Plate. The car is fitted with the air con but was fitted with a manual sunroof. My first task is to convert this to electric.
Does anyone know if this can be done on this model, and also what parts would i need to complete this.
Second aspect of my quest to build up my new toy, i would like to convert the odo from digits to a lcd display like what is fitted to the new st, again can this be done and does anyone know of a company that can do this for me.
Thirdly heard people talking on there posts of fitting a sarrs system, does anyone know what this is?
All help would be good.
Regards
Gareth

20K+ Super Poster.
I beleive the sunroof on the sierra sapph you need a motor from a MK 3 granada as they have a different amount of splines on the manual and auto handles, as I was/am eventually to do this myself on my sapphy.
I would assume as the escos is based on the sierra that it is the same.

Escorts should be a bolt in job check first as the wiring may be there...
Reason i say this is my mates J plate sierra NON ghia manual roof had all electrics there,so he just bolted up and pluged in job done
As Tab said early sierras require a gananda motor MK3 as the roof mech has the same spline( the later one are different finer splines)
I know this cos i've converted mine to electric

I tried a Granada motor and it was far too big !!, you do need a escort MK5 electric motor, and this will bolt straight in to existing mounts. The splines do differ though (I changed the whole roof mechanism) but they can be made to fit.
There are no pre-wired electrics so you'll need to route some in.

you can either get away with just a motor wiring and trim OR the whole sunroof mech aswell
Take your handle off and count the splines and them see if the motor from a escort cos with a electric roof has the same amount if so it might iust be a case of bolting in a nd feeding the wires to it

The manual winder splines were different to the electric one when i changed mine.
Some people have managed to fit the electric motor to the manual roof mechanism by grinding the splines down, although from what i remember my roof mechanism didn't have the bolting holes for the electric motor, so i changed the whole thing.
