ive got a 89 rs turbo, its had loads of problems running lately, it was running fine last sunday afternoon, then decided to start misifring and then cut out, the fuel pump relay had some dodgy wiring and the relay ws burnt out so got it fixed along with a new rely straight from ford, but he problem still exists. The relay works fine the fuel pump primes and the car turns over, nearly starts then doesnt, you can smell fuel and the spark plugs are full of carbon. any suggestions before i starts replecing things???

does it do it when the engine is hot and cold?

If it only does it when its cold unplug the cold start valve.

when it first started happening the car was hot because it had been running, but ever since its been cold, it does get going sometimes if you pump the accelerator but only for a second

trying pulling the CSV plug off it cant do any harm, 99% of the time its not doing any favours

ive unplugged the CSV, ive got fuel to the distributer but when i remove the fuel line for the injectors from the distributer theres no fuel coming out???

are you removing the fuel line on its own or the whole injector aswell?

i took the fuel line off the top of the metering unit, didnt want to disturb the injectors, hoping its not the metering unit

is the flap moving when you turn the engine over

yes it moves open slightly when turning the car over

remove the fuel pump relay, bridge it so the pump runs constantly and press the flap, and see if you get fuel spraying then - watch your eyes tho

yes, there is fuel coming out of the metering unit when the relay is bridged and i press the flap

then the metering head is fine.

I can only assume you have an air leak somewhere then, if fuel doesnt spray when you crank the engine by hand...?
