Default can some one help turbo problems

hi there i am new to this site i have a 88 escort rs turbo with the rattle snake kit on
my car is the not the problem my friend on the isle of man also has a rs turbo an it is not getting boost properly ,,,,
boost is not kicking in till about 4000rpm

i was wondering if the boost might need turning up (if so could any one let us no how this is done as new to turbos).... also y i here when i give my car some serious wellie i sometimes get boost cut any ideas y this is may thanks

is there any way of checking this fault
or could u tell me how to wind the boost up we have been told the lad before who had it had it set up like this so he didnt hurt him self
only just found this out so could boost need turning up if so how do we do this

You turn it up by shortening the actuator rod - undo the locknut and wind the shaft up to shorten it....but don't do that yet.

The boost should come in a lot earlier, which is why I said the actuator's lazy - if it's making the right amount boost, but higher in the rev range, it could be because the actuator's not holding the wastegate shut for long enough, perhaps because the spring in the actuator's worn.

Boost is cut by the ecu (assuming your amal valve is still connected) when it thinks there's too much. If it were a cossie, I'd say to check your map sensor, and its hose, but there may be other things to check on your RST.
