202 block
what's the latest opinion on 202 block versus 200 block?
i know the 202 block can't be longstudded, but i'm talking about high boost with standard bolts and 3 layer headgasket?
cheers

why cant it be long studded?
is this because of what i said a while ago about the head bolt holes not being as deep? this is what a local cosworth garage told me but i think they were just trying to sound clever and were tellin me porkies mate
basically they sound identical to the 200 block but without the rear plug, so that can only make them stronger than the 200 really.
why have you got one cause i thought they where all long gone? or are you considering that one on ebay with the pistons?

no i've got one mate, i'm building it up at the moment, my opinion is it seems at least as good as 200 block, i'll measure the depth of the holes and post here...

what the thick walls? when i was at grove they were building an rs500 engine and if u looked through the water pump hole you could see the thicker bore walls. don't know if 200 have this...
plenty of people reading will know....

When I was over at SCS I had a chat with Harvey Gibbs about the 202 block. They are slightly better than a 205 block but not as good as the 200 block. They basically are only good for a standard rebuild, are considerably cheaper than a 200 block and have less core plugs which would help make the water jacket slightly stronger.
The bad points:
- The piston bore walls remain the same thickness throughout whereas the 200 block's gets thicker near one end
- They cannot be long studded like the 200. Harvey held up the 2 blocks and showed where the 200 had meat to drill into and the 202 didn't.
They therefore a not seen as being the block of choice for higher powered engine. Also, the supply of them was brief and small, so you are unlikely to hear of them again.
Hope this helps!
