Default No brakes

Hello.
Anyone come across this before. Ive got no braking power at all. My brake pedal sinks to the floor. ive bled the system of any air but when i pump the pedal all i get is a dribble out of the bleed nipples rather than a more pressurised squirt. the same is happening on all four corners and it actually sound like air is in the system when the pedal is pumped.
Could it be the seals in the master cylinder have gone and its drawing air in??
If this is right how easy is it to change.
Thanks guys.
Muffster.

Sounds like it could well be the master cylinder

Hi mate sorry for the late reply.
its a saph cos. its been laid up in a garage for years, i took the pistons out of the calipers to free them up, bled the system twice but still no pedal. im not sure if its the master cylinder of the pump. Any offers would be great.

What was wrong with the calipers then rusty pistons?

If so the master cylinder may well have gone rusty aswell

how did you bleed them fella havent you got to turn the rear calipers upside down for the air to reach the top

also have you tried to bleed the air out of the master cylinder first

Not a sierra they were designed to be on that car, its only on RST's because they get mounted in the wrong position.

Yes i took the pistons out because they were just full of crap so now moving freely.
What i haven't done is bleed form the master cylinder, is it just the same as a caliper with a bleed nipple?
The pump makes a buzzing sound with the ignition switched on but im not sure if the problem lies with the pump or master clylinder.
Cheers.

Ive been trying to find the pictures i had of the bleeding procedure from a Ford manual but i must of deleted them

I thought you're meant to bleed them all using the ABS pump though........

When you say using the ABS pump do you mean using the pedal or is there another way?
Cheers.

as far as i know you bleed the brakes with the ignition switched on with light pressure on the brake

That sounds about right.

Basically what you do i think is crack open the nipple, and press the pedal lightly so the ABS pump starts up, this pumps fluid through the lines then once air stops coming out you tighten the nipple and wait for the pump to stop.

Repeat that on all 4 corners and i think thats all there is to it!

you only need the ignition on and the pump running to bleed the rear brakes

the front brakes should be bled without the pump running - ie the old fashioned way

Thanks for that guys.
Ive tried those methods and i still have a problem so i think it must be the master cylinder or something.
Cheers.

Try clamping off the flexi's one by one and seeing if you can get a feel in the pedal, it may help you pin point the fault a bit more
