Default power steering

just had a problem with my power steering it has started goin in stages as i turn the steering wheel and now its realy heavy.but the belt is ok and the pump sounds fine.can anyone help. this is on an escort cosworth

check the joint from the column to the rack, spray some wd40 in it

Check the fluid level first, then if all things as they should be you have two things left, rack or pump is knackered!!

also, check the belt is tight!
