Throttle Position Sensor on CFI Unit
Hey peeps ! First time for me on here so hopefully I will get some good help. Certainly looks like I will after reading a few previous posts.
I have a 1994 Ford Escort LX 1.4i and have a slight problem with it starting from cold. The problem is that it finds it hard to start from cold unless I apply the accelerator peadle slightly.
After a bit of reading on the internet and looking at the bits under the bonnet and also reading the Haynes Manual I have discovered that it looks like the Throttle Position Sensor doesnt move when the car is running. Now my understading of the function of the TPS is that it will adjust the acelerator cable so that the car starts without trouble by applying the right amount of revs... correct me if im wrong about that.
After removing the TPS I noticed that the wires to the TPS were showing and looked like they had been touching so possibly shorting it out or something similar so I want to replace this. Only problem is im finding it hard to find a replacement without going down to the scrappy. Can anyone help with this? Anyone know where I can get one online? It has the markings on the back saying its a weber PF07/03 if this helps.
Also I was reading up that its controlled by the ECU... do you think there is any chance that the ECU could be giving out faulty signals or no signal at all to the TPS?
If anyone has had similar problems or any other suggestion =s for what might be the cause then please feel free to advise.
Sorry its so long for my first post but I wanted to make sure I got all the information across ! Thankyou for taking the time to read this.

Very unlikely to be a ECM(ECU) fault unless cause d by shorting wires.
The TPS does NOT control the throttle cable, it relays info about how far open the throttle(position) is to the ECU the ISCV or idle speed control valve opens the airways via a seperate passage to admit air for starting AND for low speed running, the TPS do sometimes lose their tracks inside and idle track area is a fav to suffer so would be worth trying another, you will soon know if this is the case as the idle when hot will be a bit hit and miss and it will be lumpy too, but fine when cold, the TPS when it signals a closed position enriches the mix slightly at idle to give smoother idle, when it is missing the "closed" signal it of course does not richen and you suffer a "lean cruise mixture", which is much weaker than a idle mix needs to be.
If you phone WEBCON up they will tell you the best place, for cossie bits I use MATT LEWIS 01922 692424, he may be able to get you one if noit WEBCON are on 01932 788805.
WEBCON + WEBER one and the same and now include MAGNETTI MARRELI.
