Default Timing

Hello everyone.
Can anyone help. Im have real snags with my RWD cossie. I will not start since i took the distributor out to change the phase sensor. Im thinking its a timing problem but ive replaced it according to the manual and it still wont start. My question is can the timing be adjusted to find the right "spot" my adjusting the position of the distributor when its in situ. As it move around a lot when i replace it. Ive got spark and fuel but it wont turn over. Please help, im at my wits end!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

Thanks for the reply guys. Im led to belive that it doesnt matter which way its plugged in as its not keyed to fit one way, so its not polatiry sensitive. But this might be a load of crap. i tried it both ways, if i turn it around the wires seem to twist unnatuarally if you get what i mean. still no joy b****ks. Any help would be great.
cheers.

Hi,

Are you sure that your cylinder number 1 was on "fire" position ?

that's the right way for it to be albit looking wrong!

oh and once the dissy in situ you cant adjust it! as mentioned above when you put it back in did you line the rotor arm to number one cylinder or the mark in the dissy body?

I lined the rotor arm up with the scribe mark on the dizzy before tightening the bolt. As you slip the dizzy in the block the whole thing turns itself as the cogs bite (but it dosent mention this in the book) then i just turned it a little to align the rotor and scribe mark. Im not sure which cylinder it was pointing at( the first one i think)
Does this sound ok 'cos i must be doing something wrong. Ive had it 11 years and dying to get in back on the road.
Thanks for your help.
