Speed Sensor on EFI RST.....is it needed?
Quickie....
I'm wiring ofab into my mk5 escort but I don't have the speed sensor that plugs inbetween the speedo cable and gearbox.
What's it's function and can I get away without using one.

Cool m8, thx for that
Yeah the missus and I had the pleasure of an almost identical car to your sig for about 2 yrs. Was on a Q plate, same colour, rst bodykit & bonnet, full rst engine & box n brakes, running about 12psi and rolling on some similar wheels too! TSW type Rs or something I think.
That was about 2 years ago and it needed suspension work n engine was running hot & supping coolant, prob headgasket I know but bodywork was getting a bit tatty too so we flogged it
Missed the sound of a dump valve and the crazy torque of a turbo ever since
A couple of months after selling that we bought what you see below. The wife saw it on ebay and had to have it lol. Only prob was it only had a 1.6 CVH on a carb in it so shall we say overtaking was a tad embarrassing
However! There's about to be a beast reborn!
Took it to Boggy's to get it tuned as it was running like an even worse bag of crap than usual and a poorly head was diagnosed. I whipped the head off to find one of the cam followers had a crater in it like u'd normally see on the moon lol. Scouring ebay and calling up loadsa scrappys didn't turn up an identical head and just a cam was too much too spend on the old engine anyway in my opinion.
So..... a nice m8 of mine said 'i've got a nice EFI turbo you can buy off me' and this's where i'm at right now.....
old engine & box out
separated them
stuck old box onto efi turbo block
chucked 'em back in engine bay
slapped on efi head
fiddled about with radiators to get a bit of space for intercooler (nice shiney Radtec one )
bolted turbo on
bolted inlet on
just about retrained myself as a plumber doing all pipework lol
swapped my driveshafts whilst I was at it as they were both bent? So i've been told by the guy who changed my gearbox recently anyway...
got a nearly new off an 1993 xr3i fuel tank off ebay for Ł20
So i'm about to drop old tank off n plumb in new one,
Graft in the EFI engine loom to my old prehistoric setup (was running DIS coilpack thingy)
then cross loadsa fingers and press the ignition button lol.
Ooooh no lsd box with a fair few horses what joy to come
So that's it for now i'm off to do some more today n tomorrow....
No doubt as I get insanely stuck with the wiring i'll be asking more questions hehe.
Thx again Safechav n Karl

YOU WILL NOT get far without the speed sensor

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
OFAB will run without the VSS but not without some problems, the most usual being stalling when revs are dropping to idle rpm. It would be best to get one fitted but you can run without it.

I absolutely guarantee every one fromt he factory has one. Wanky MFi engines dont need a speed sensor because the management is shit, electronic injection requires more information to work, hence the speed sensor.

I'll have to source one then.
I also need a Fiesta charge pipe to throttle body pipe, brake servo to inlet manifold vacuum pipe and fuel filter to fuel rail pipe.
Sheesh it'll be worth it
