Default Annoying locking problem

Escort Mk4. Just started doing this and it's constant!

Whenever either door is open, the central locking is repeatedly switching from locked to unlocked to locked etc. Whine-click-whine-click-whine-click...

When both doors are shut it stops and they are then permanently locked. I pull the inner handle to get out and it opens fine but whine-click-whine-click... til i shut it. This also means that when getting in from the outside I have to turn the key in the lock and open it quick while it's momentarity in its unlocked state

What's happened and how do I sort it?

Thanks, Chris

Check the latches are screwed tighly in the doors to start with!

If not its probably a motor knackered or a wiring fault.

I`d agree with Safechav, but to find out, just unplug each solonoid at a time (including the one in the boot), And then try it. When it works, you`ve found your problam....

Hope that helps...

It can only ever be a fault on the front 2 doors as they have internal switches aswell (one of the few cars around that time with central locking that operates from both sides)

Rear doors and tailgates shouldnt be linked to locking/unlocking issues

as has already been said its a slow motor probably in the passenger door, try unplugging that motor if it cures the problem cut the brown wire at that motor, that will mean that you wont be able to unlock all the doors from that side but it will still unlock them all from the drivers door and it will stop the annoying stuff until you can get a new motor (if you can be bothered)

Fuck cutting wires what a bodge!

As ive said further up most of the time a bit of oil sorts things out, no need to be chopping wires!!!

And if you cut the brown wire the passenger door it wont lock with the central locking at all.......

hello again, had no internet for last few days...

it turned out to be the driver's side motor which i've simply unhooked from the mechanism. as a result i now have no central locking, but to be honest i'm not really bothered. it's less to go wrong again plus i'll easy get used to letting passengers in. will maybe try a bit of oil or a fresh motor at some point but i'm happy for now!

been a huge help as always, thanks a lot
