Default Any1 know their driveshafts?

Hi ppl, i'm having a hard time getting two replacement driveshafts for my MK5 Escort (Mine are both bent).

Car: 1993 MK5 'scort
Engine: 1.6CVH
No ABS
Gearbox: standard iB5

Tried some series 1 RST ones and they fit fine gearbox end but wheelhub end the shaft is way too small. Guess Ford enlarged the hub end 'cause of wear prob.

Any help as all my local scrappies say 'nah m8, not seen a cvh for ages'

Thanks for ya time

You saying the spline is too small on the shaft of the CV joint?

Erm i'm thinking 'yes' answers the question above quite well...as in:

'yes, I am saying the spline is too small on the shaft of the CV joint'

English lesson over.... I thank you

Hehe but enough joking, thanks again for your fountain of knowledge SafeChav, i've just called a dealer in ford spares and he reckons he's got the right type so i'm off tomorrow to compare them to my old one's.

Fingers crossed they're right!

I shall keep you informed!

Hell I might even get all crazy and post pics up.

There again what i'm doing to the car at the moment may well have it's own place in the projects forum soon I hope!

As an afterthought if you're question was to clarify things then my only problem was that the splined socket on the hub is much larger than the splined shaft on the end of the driveshaft ie outer CV joint end.

Ok i'm done, bye.

So.....in that case, the CV spline is too small, have you tried fitting your MK5 CV to the MK4 shaft?

Well I did ponder that but when I opened up one of the CV joints I just got sooooo put off by the amount of gunk to shift before you get to the circlip that I decided against it.

Like I said i'll see what tomorrow brings as it'll only cost me Ł35 for both

Stop being a big girl its only grease

Couple of pairs of gloves, you dont need to scoop the grease out just feel for the clip. I havent even got proper circlip pliers, i use a pair of normal needle nose pliers

You'll be alright.

Sounds geeky i know but i seriously would urge you to wear protective glasses or whatever! I had a piece of rust stuck in my eye after i dropped my tank off.

Ouchy.

Thanks for the advice, well common sense I know.

Just had the rear chassis leg welded so i'm guessing it's pretty much going to have some crap falling on me from that end of the motor.

Think it's a good idea to scrubb off some old loose flaky bits and slap a fresh coat of waxoil underseal on whilst i've got access.
