hello everyone im buying an erst rolling shell its an e reg got neally every thing except an engine/gearbox just need to know if there is anything i need to look for/check before i purchuse it cheers

 

Check for RUST, RUST and MORE RUST, there isnt that many places that MK4/S2 shells dont rot, unless u have found a good one, its very widely posted about MK4 escort rotting places so go to the ROSC site and do a search

the RS kit can hide real nightmares and so can the sunroof ..........so do your research well, many people think they have a mint car on thier hands until they get the car home and delve a little deeper, check PAPERWORK and all the legal stuff, make sure it is an RS, the ROC guys know there stuff so id be keeping a very close eye on their forum!!!!!

 

rust

check the back arches/sills and most of all the rear chassis rails (where the rear spring top meets the chassis)

these were well and truly shagged on mine - had i checked the rails before i bought it i wouldnt have even touched it.

 

ive brought it now its got a bit of welding on the front slam panel. i havent pull the carpets up yet but or what i can see its mint, all i need now is an engine and gear box im well happy

 

whatever ur intentions for the car, get the carpets out and get it up on a ramp. and scrutinise the underside, epecially wher the sills meet the rear wheel arches but look from under the car, rather than with the car on the ground, good luck mate, theyre top fun cars..................

 

cheers m8, just pulled the carpet up found 2 holes so far 1 at the pasenger foot well and the other is where some div jacked it up wrong and has put a hole next to the jacking point, but i need to have a proper look when its not raining
