Default Long pedal travel on 2wd Sapphire

Hello, any brake experts on here? Took my Sapphire out today for a run but I noticed straight away that the brake pedal travel seems to have gone "long"? i.e the brakes work but they don't seem as firm and as near the top of the pedal as last time I used it - about 2 weeks ago. The hydraulic pump seemed to buzz Ok when I switched it on and the ABS light went out like normal. Any ideas? Would the accumulator or something similar have gone? Any other ideas? The ABS light isn't on so it would tendto suggest that that is not the problem? Brake system is all standard.

Cheers for any help or ideas of possible cost,

Leaks causing air in the system. Is the fluid level correct (check it after the pump has finished buzzing).

Just had a look at the fluid level but doesn't appear to have moved - can't see any marks on garage floor where it has been for a fair few days.
Any other ideas apartfrom air in the system - it seemed fine a couple of weeks ago when I used it last.

Does the pedal get harder if you repeatedly keep pressing it?

Brake fluid is susceptable to absorbing moisture, reducing the boiling point of the brake fluid, although this is normally only noticable when the brakes are used for prolonged periods causing heat build up it may be worth changing the fluid and bleading the whole system

Guinnless,

I shall give it a whirl tomorrow and see if it improves when I press repeatedly. I guess if that's the case it is air in the system? Just a bit mystified why it should be fine 2 weeks ago and then go "long travel" by today.
Cheers for the replies though
