that happened to my fiesta rs turbo it was just an air lock.
try bleeding the system by runing the engine with the header tank open and the heating on hot .when the heating get hot the system should be bled.

im back after my weekend away, so guess i better get back to this...
tabetha as safechav has said, im talking about water rising to the top in a matter of seconds when i idle the engine at around 3000rpm. with the cap on.
what is the PCV system? as i will be checking as much as i can tommorow for blocks ad i might as well start with the most likely ones.
rs_seg thats what i was hoping. but have already tried that the other day but made no difference

Pressure test coolant system, and see if pressure drops over 10-15 minute period,Manually check thermostat(pan of boiling water) to confirm it opens..,or try running engine without thermostat to see if problem persists..,check top and bottom radiator hoses,if one is definitely hotter than the other after initial warm up period so engine is at normal running temperature then you have a flow problem.

Sounds like it's got air trapped somewhere, I'd run the car up with the cap off the header tank and rev it periodically to see if it bubbles over.
If it does it's more than likely air trapped. You have to leave it to tick over I've found for 20 mins at least. Most people don't bleed the air out correctly.
It's worth a shot!

ive tried every 'get trapped air out' technique there is. although if people still have new ways of doing it i havnt tried then im still all ears
im still in favour of a blocked pipe too
but i wont know untill i get my lazy ass outside in the cold and start taking hoses off

well i went out and ran it one last time before i drain the anti freeze out and start taking hoses off.
ticked over for 40minutes and didnt over heat at all.
although i already established this last week,im just finding exuses not to start taking hoses off i think
better get cracking before it gets dark..
quick question though, what would actually block a pipe, its only water that runs through them?
also if this doesnt work, is the next step dash out to start checking out heater matrix etc

Corrosion can block the smaller pipes up, on the metal connections normally, and thats where i would be looking.
You don't have to take the dash out you could just disconnect it and bypass it for now, but i doubt it that is going to make the level rise anyway

right...time to resurect this thread
i havnt been anywhere near my car since early feb
but ive had a thought...
could the water be rising due to a lazy/knackered water pump?
i think this because the water level is fine when the car is idling but as soon as you rev the engine (and the water pump has to work harder to pump water around) it rises rapidly.
any opinions appreciated.

If that was the case and it was the water pump that to me would say the water pump is working too effeciently, if anything.
Unrealistic in my eyes, sorry
