Default Series 2 Headlight fuses Melted!

Has anyone had this happen?

2 of the fuses for my headlights have melted (but still work) so for some reason they are getting hot.
Along with this when i turn on full beam the drivers side comes on dim but the passenger side does nothing, same thing happens if i just flash them.
Normal driving lights work fine, just when i turn full beam on.

I've done the obviuos, change the bulbs and relays but still the same.
I've also ran a earth wire from the battery and tried it on both the headlight earth terminals (in case of bad earth probs) but no joy.
But if I run a wire from the drivers full beam live to the passenger full beam terminal then it comes on nice and bright as it should! (drivers remains dim)

Any ideas welcome!

Karlos.

Hard to say from that, i expect the wiring on the underside of the fuse box is all melted aswell.

be careful running wires and bridging things as it would be very easy to overload the circuits and have a meltdown

Quite a common thing on the MK4's i believe though

I had it happen once on an Orion 16iGhia I had. I lost both Headlights coming home from work one night. Had to replace the fuse box if IIRC.

Hmm i know this is going to be one of those jobs................

Might just completley rewire the headlights, using the existing wiring just to turn relays on and off.......would probably be quicker and easier than trying to find the fault!
