Small valve marks on top of pistons, will i need new pistons
Took the head off my 3dr today cos my valves are bent and i noticed that where the valves have touched the pistons there are small marks on them !
Will i need to replace the pistons or will they be ok ?
any help would be great

When my tensioner stud went on my 4x4 all the valves got bent and had to be replaced,
Concequently all my Pistons had 4 marks in them where the valves hit them. I took them to Burtons and first of all they said it was the worst case of bent valves they have ever seen and then they machined the marks a bit further into the pistons and they said they were ok and that it also reduces the chances of the valves bending again.
P.S Just so you know the Valves are expensive!!! Exhaust = Ł45 each approx
Inlet = Ł25 each approx
Sorry if i ruined your day!
Hope it helps

Just did my head gasket and noticed a couple of marks on mine. I thought it was from wrong valve timing, but that was o.k, Still at least i know now.. .
So in answer to yer question , nope they should be fine.

if a serious case occurs has any1 thought of goin through an n.d.t (non destructive testing) method called dye penetrant,basically you thouroughly clean the surface of the pistons you then spray on a red dye which then soaks into any cracks as they will be porous then you clean the dye off and spray on a developer spray this meks the porous parts i.e the cracks visible as a red line across the white,using this process can save lots of valuable time and money,sorry to bamble on so much but it is a proven way,we use it all the time at work
