Default Canadian Needs Help 2WD Cossie

No one in Canada can help me as i have one of the only cossies in the country. I think it may be the alternator as the battery is toast.

Symptoms:

- Harzard flasher barely operate (slowly)
- wipers really slow
- car is back firing and missing
- wont crank over

If it is the alternator i really need a Bosch Part number so i can try and source one locally.

Im desperate for help.

Thanks

Doesn't necessarily sound like the alternator to me. Sounds like it could be the fuse box feeds on the positive battery terminal have corroded or are damaged causing a significant voltage drop. Common problem. The solution is to cut out the "fuseable links" (the first 10 or so inches of the wires to the joint you'll find if you undo the wrapping/sleeving) and replace with the appropriate gauge of new wire.

This could potentially cause all of the above faults including the missfire if the ECU voltage is too low.

Get the charging rate checked.

Alternators are easy to fix, its rare to need a new one

Can you point out what wire this is in the fuse panel and fuse so i can try bypassing it.

Just before it died all the intruments, power accesories, stereo etc... all went dead so i may be leaning towards the main power going into the fuse panel.

but why would my battery be flat?

Thanks for your help gents i really appreciate it.

put some jump leads/booster pack on and see if it runs then IF it does it's your alternator that's knackered m8!

ALL the things you have mentioned above will be caused due to low charging rate which IS needed to run the car!

I found that my alternator wire which attaches to the positive terminal on the battery is loose. would this have cause a failure to charge?
