Sierra Cosworth advice
Hi there. I'm a newbie to the forum, we've had a Sierra Cosworth Saloon in the family for a while which i get to drive most days !! (hubby has a company car and is dead jealous !). We bought it with a louder dump valve, a stage one chip and an uprated acuator (okay i know what a chip is but an actuator ? Never mind !).
The guy we got it from said we just needed a better/bigger exhaust and a cone air filter to get 270 hp as it is around 250 hp now. Does this sound about right ? Also, we have a problem when people are in the back seat of car, the exhaust is scrapping the ground when you accelerate hard and speedbumps are a nightmare. Apparently all Cosworths do this ?

Sounds like you need standard height but uprated suspension springs. Example price - around £100 per set of 4 springs from Avo. Others available.
Re the air filter - either fit a cone type (but make sure it fits onto the standard diameter hose), or a K+N panel filter that will fit into the original airbox - either will be OK. Rough prices used cone filter around £40, new cone around £90, new K+N panel filter about £45 off ebay.
Re exhaust - if it's got a stainless on already, it should be fine. If it's not stainless, get one - check ebay. Note - 2wd and 4x4 exhausts are different.

Hi
Yeah, good advise, get a stainless performance exahust and a good induction kit to release that bit extra to get you up to the full stage one expected 270 hp. We got these - recomed mongoose and K&N 57i, check us out on the internet....?
Try a 4x4 intercooler also, plenty used around for £100 or so - this will allow you to run a little more boost saftley (just done go mad).
The problem with the suspension is that its probably knackered, if the springs are sagging, the dampers will probably be fit for the bin if they are the same age we reckon. We've put Suierra based stock cars together with Gaz kits, dont go coil over for a road car, go for adjustable with standrad ride hieght but 25-30% uprated springs or a drop of 25-40mm max. This will give you better grip and less squat under acceleration (when the rear dips down) which will stop the car scrapping its bum - i know, had the same issue. Depending upon the amount of lowering you do, you will see some negative camber on the wheels - be prepared for some tyre bills ......
Sorry about the waffle, love Cossies.....

hi all this advice is good one other thing you could consider is some progressive rated springs as they they get harder the more weight you put on then, but when the back of car is empty the rear springs go soft so giving a nice drive, also to combat the caster angle from when saff's are lower and wearing the inside off the rear tyres, like mine use to do there are some shims available by r&b that bring the camber angle back out and saves a fortune on tyres and also means more tyre contact and more grip
good luck ......
good luck ......

Hi Susanne,
Many thanks, trying to be different ! The pictures come from Carl Greatrex of Cartoon Cars, do a search in google and you'll find him. Everything else comes from suppliers.
Cant mention the site due to forum rules but gald you like it. Give me a ring if you need more help or advice, number on the website.
4x4 exhaust wont fit 2wd without a big hammer and lots of swearing.....best to get a 2wd exhuast if that the way you want to go.
