tappits or shims??
Hi all, wonder if anyone can help, I have a 2.5 V6 Mondeo 130,000 miles on the clock and its making a strange noise, its like a fast ticking that sounds like its coming from the drivers side, its not very loud when idling but very loud when revved, also a lot faster as the engine speeds up, am unsure if the V6 is tappits or shims and could this be the cause?? or pulleys that would speed up with revs, I just wondered if anyone else had come across this and how they remedied it??
any help is greatly appreciated

The Hydraulic tappets work via oil pressure to sustain them, usually a oil seal around the top of the tappet goes thus allowing the oil to leak out. This means that the hydraulic tappet requires replacing. If you are lucky only one, maybe two will have gone. Last time i bought one of these for a Ford they cost between £10 and £15 each. The only way to check for sure is to remove the rocker covers and inspect the hydraulic tappets, and knackered ones will be loose on the top.
i thankyou
