my 1990 xr3i efi cabriolet seems to run ok start it up ticks over at just over 1100 rpm then drop s down to 950 ish. then when u pull away is ok and pretty smooth but as soon as u come to slow down and to a stop the revs drop right down and then sometimes cuts out. do u know whats is doing this?

 

My old XR3i (EFI) had the same problem i cleaned the carb out and got rid of all the shit that builds up in there and it was fine after i done that give that a go mate.

 

Sounds like the breather system might be blocked. Try cleaning out all the breather hoses and see if there is any conjealed oil blocking the hoses.

it could be a faulty road speed sensor..... i am not sure if your car is fitted with one of these though. check at the back of the gearbox where the speedo pugs in. the sensor (if you have one) is in between the speedo cable and the gearbox.

Try cleaning the crud off of it and checking the condition of the wires to it
