Oil pump question ....
Hi .... so what should approx oil pressure be on a uprated 4wd oilpump ??
Thing is that I ordered a uprated pump where I got my engine rebuild, but I think it a bit low ..?
idle .............. 55 psi cold and 28 psi hot
2000 rpm ..... 40 psi hot
3000 rpm ..... 48 psi hot
raising to approx 52-55 psi hot when taking higher rpm's.
I dont know if it matters, but I have a external oilcooler mounted and i'm using a mobil 1 oil, (5w50) ??????

thats about 20 psi higher than mine from cold and 20 psi over at idle when hot ...

I also got new bearings and so on as it was a complete rebuild...
so if there was another problem...what could that be ??
Tom those figures are for a std pump mate BUT as alvyn said oil grade makes a difference
an uprated pump should be around 80 psi cold
But it is not such a good idea to have too much pressure, because all the oil gose to the top quickly and only has a hole the size of 22 mm approx to return to the sump= bottom end failure
if low on oil
These are mine 60 psi cold
32 psi hot at idle
this is on mobil 1 motorsport 15/50
I personally think your oil is too thin
BUT your figures are in spec

About the pump...its just that I cant understand why it has std pressure when the pump is a uprated(I got it myself from Woodford)....could anything be wrong... the engine is a 4wd rebuild only change is that its in my 2wd sapp, and therefor it has a 2wd sump...???

and what dip stick are you using??????
Its a complete 4wd engine, except for the sump ... so dip stick is 4wd.
why ??
Right dip stick will read wrong as its a different size and different markings on it to a 2wd item, i believe that the 4wd oil pump and pick up sits lower than the 2wd item u will need to comfirm this with a tuner ask stu @msd or mark @madevelopments or someone on here will no for deffo....
needs to be sorted

if so the pump must be a std 4wd pump... or there is another problem..
...... ???
The grade of oil is vey important, i had oil from a mate who works at BMW and my oil pressure went to 40psi when cold and dropped to as low as 12.5psi when really hot, i shit my pants and changed to mobil 1 15/50 and it read 60 when cold and 33 when hot, i only have a standard pump too
hope this helps a little
