S2 RST Rev counter
Hi all,
Recently bought a S2. The rev counter is not working properly. It has an aftermarket set of dials fitted called plasmadials which look white during the day, but when dark you can go from blue to green and adjust the backlight. They look very bling, but unfortunatley my rev counter is not working!
When the car is ticking over the counter shows approx 1k rpm so is fairly accurate. However it never goes above 2500. It doesn't go erratic, just doesn't go over 2500.
Any ideas? The speedo works fine (and is actually surprisingly accurate to 95 measured against my sat nav). The fuel gauge is a bit slow to come up but does work, as does the temp gauge.
Is it likely the needle has been put back wrong after they were fitted? I have done some research on here and passionford, and read that the feed is a green wire from the dizzy. I think that it is not an intermittant connection as it is constantly reading low, rather than sometimes working and sometimes not. Any help greatly appreciated. DIY cheap fix would be best as I'm skint for 2 weeks!

I doubt it to be honest, and it would be much easier just to replace it if it is the rev counter itself.
Yes you can simply replace the rev counter part, although i can guarantee the trial and error of getting the needle on correctly takes longer that actually fitting the rev counter itself

No, you can get it out with the steering wheel on aswell but i would recommend taking it off if you can!
As long as there is continuity in the green wire then it should be fine (and it goes to the coil, not the dizzy btw)
I personally would just find a second hand one in a scrap yard to try

Its easy enough to do, remove the horn from the wheel and then you will need a 22mm to get the wheel off (REMEMBERING to take the steering lock off before you start smashing the steering wheel with a hammer because it doesnt come off
)
Then theres 2 screws holding the black surround on at the top, then pull it out (2 clips at the bottom which can be tight)
Then 2 more screws holding the clocks in.
Bet you a jam tart it takes you longer getting the speedo cable off than anything else
