Lambda sensor
Hi,
When fitting an air/fuel ratio meter to a car that previously never had a lambda sensor does it matter what the sensor comes from or will literally any lambda sensor do?
Also where is the best place to put the sensor in the 'zorst? Is it ok in the turbo exhaust housing or will that frazzle it?
Thanks in advance,
MazakMan

Innovate Kit is around the £280 mark (XD-16 kit) on ebay. I dont know of any cars that will give you all the components you need. Best bet would be to lookaround for 2nd hand equipment. The problem with this is that the Lambda sensors dont last forever and a new one is £60 approx.
A cheaper option would be to buy an LC-1, wideband sensor and an anolog gauge. Graham Goode are distributers for Innovate stuff.
The main problem with the narrowband kits are that are set-up for the American market in mind and big V8's etc. Readings can show a lean setting, when in fact rich etc.

Thanks for digging out the links for me.
The LC-1 still seems to offer alot more than I want and I'm loathe to pay for something (albeit a very smart bit of kit) if i'm barely going to scratch the surafce of it's capabilties i.e. end up paying for stuff i won't use...
Can you see where I'm coming from?
There must be simpler (cheaper hopefully!) system for monitering lambda... maybe...?
Many many thanks again for helping me on what seems to be a deeply unpopular subject.

Stu @ MSD uses this one.

Your engine could still run lean on a cheap narrowband setup and the gauge wont show it, so is it worth taking the risk ?
However, if your only running standard power motor you should be ok anyway.

I sense alot of eBay trawling coming up...
Having said that it's all a bit pie in the sky as the engine isn't even in the car yet and won't be until next year!
I may have won the lottery or been re-united with some rich relatives by the time I actually need the damn thing.
Cheers for all the advice, at least I have a clarified idea of what to look for.

does anyone know of any cars that may be in scrappies that have wideband sensors?
